Aerial Photos of the Vekol Road SiteThese aerial photos show the Vekol Road site, the location of the monthly EVAC Deep Sky star party. The photographs were obtained from TerraServer, a massive database of aerial/satellite imagery obtained from the US Geological Survey and Spin-2, which markets formerly classified Soviet satellite imagery. |

(left) Small-scale photo of the area showing Interstate 8 running roughly east-west and Vekol Road running north-south. The first two miles of the road are prominent, but the last mile of the road is difficult to pick out at this scale. The observing site is near the bottom of the photograph (arrowed). The intricate tree-like pattern of the washes is typical for desert areas around the state. The primary drainage feature of the Vekol Valley is Vekol Wash, visible to the right of center. (top) The rather goofy Vekol interchange. After exiting the freeway, take the ramp to the left up to the overpass. Turn left, cross the freeway, and continue onto the onramp loop toward I-8 east. About halfway through the loop, take a left onto the dirt road. (bottom) Closeup of the site. The open area just below center is the site. |
