Deep Sky Object of the Month

August 2001: NGC 6905

NGC 6905 NGC 6905 is a fairly bright planetary nebula in the tiny constellation Delphinus. POSS/DSS photo.

Although not very bright, especially in comparison to its neighbors, NGC 6905 should be visible in three-inch or larger scopes. The slightly elongated disk is more or less uniform in brightness with diffuse edges in smaller instruments. As the size of the telescope increases, some mottling becomes noticeable across the disk. Ten-inch or larger scopes should show the 14th magnitude central star.

How to get there:

NGC 6905 lies four degrees east of fifth-magnitude Eta Sagittae.
